A concept design for a wall lamp that can be connected to other units from a single power source.
Unlike typical wall lamps that require installation work, Route can be easily mounted by hanging it on pins or screws inserted into the wall, similar to hanging a clock, eliminating the need for installation work. The lamp features a retractable cable built into the body, which can be extended up to 125 cm. Additionally, it allows for the connection of multiple lamps from a single power source, providing multiple lights.
This lighting solution is versatile enough to be used in various settings, such as environments where installation work is not feasible or when multiple lights are needed, making it suitable for both living spaces and commercial establishments.

Pull. Connect. If not enough, add. If gone too far, rewind. Increase its numbers, from one power source. Extending its route freely.
The angle can be adjusted when connecting the lamps, allowing for flexible layout according to the space where they are to be installed.
Research
Installing wall lamps typically requires modifications to the wall, which poses a challenge in Japanese rental properties where restoration to the original condition is required.

To allow the light source to be installed at the desired location from the outlet, we incorporated a retractable cord, similar to a tape measure, making it possible to adjust the length.
We repeatedly tested and refined the circuit design to ensure stable illumination, even when multiple units are connected.
We integrated the three elements: lighting, the retractable cable mechanism, and the rotation mechanism, into a compact body.
Exhibition
At Milan Design Week 2023, we unveiled “5 Lights,” a collection of five lighting products, each with unique characteristics. As part of our design research, MEDUM independently engages in the planning, prototyping, and commercialization of new products in response to societal, technological, and lifestyle changes. At Milan Design Week 2023, under the theme “5 Lights,” we presented prototypes of five different lighting concepts. These designs aim to bring a touch of ingenuity and personality to everyday actions such as working, relaxing, transporting, decorating, and connecting. We are currently seeking manufacturing partners for joint development towards mass production. https://5lights.quantum.ne.jp/
